After two very tough duals earlier in the day, Team Sask wrestlers rebounded on Thursday evening with their best team effort of the Games.  A convincing 36 – 12 victory over Team Quebec meant the Saskatchewan grapplers captured 5th place – and valuable Flag Points - in the overall Team competition.   In their dual victory, the first 8 Team Sask wrestlers racked up 8 straight decisions over Quebec foes. The string of consecutive victories were highlighted with Saskatoon’s Shane Johnson and  Mistatim’s  Marlin Legare capturing their first victories of the Canada Games competition.

In their 9:00 a.m. dual, Team Sask wrestlers faced Team New Brunswick.  This dual had extra significance as it would ultimately determine a berth in the semi-finals of the medal round.  In the end, the result could not have been any closer with both teams winning six of twelve matches. Unfortunately, when the points were tallied,  Team Sask came up short being outscored by the narrowest of margins 27 – 26.  In their second dual, Team Sask faced a very deep BC squad and were defeated by a score of 45 to 6.

With the Team Duals now completed, the final day of competition on Friday will see six Saskatchewan wrestlers move onto the medal rounds for individual weight classes.  Blake Terry of Regina (42 kg), Patrick Leynes of Saskatoon (46 kg), Gaelan Malloy of Regina (69 kg), Brent Wirachowsky of Regina (85 kg), Donovan Dale of Saskatoon (115 kg), and heavy-weight, Tristan Hoath of Saskatoon have all earned the 1st or 2nd seed in their weight class and will all be looking to challenge for medals!   Action starts at 10:00a.m. at the Slemon Park Arena. Come cheer the boys on!  GO SASK!
