Girls Volleyball Picks Up Two Wins

The Saskatchewan Female volleyball team picked up 2 wins on Tuesday at the Chi-Wan Sports Centre. In their opening match of the day at 10am, Saskatchewan defeated Newfoundland/Labrador 3-0 by scores of (25-20), (25-9), and (25-14). Solveig Nilson led the way with 10 kills and a .769 kill percentage. Meagan Onstad led the team in digs with 11, to go along with 7 kills. After a slow start, the team came on late in the first set and dominated the next two sets for the win.

In the 4pm afternoon game, the girls took on highly ranked BC in what would turn out to be a thrilling match. The Saskatchewan women defeated BC 3-1 in a nail-biter by scores of (17-25), (25-23), (30-28), and (25-23).  The game was broadcast by TSN live across the country. Roxanne Olynyk had 15 kills while Meagan Onstad had 14. Candace Hueser and Tiffany Herman each had 9 digs, while twin sister Ashley Herman led the team with a .357 hitting percentage.

The win raises Saskatchewan’s record to 2-1 and leaves them in a tie atop their pool. Next match for the team is Wednesday at noon against Ontario in the MacLauchlan Arena.
