Rhiann Arnold of Prudhomme, SK after winning a bronze medal at the 2023 Canada Winter Games.

Charlottetown, PE – Saskatchewan has its first medal of the 2023 Canada Winter Games!

Rhiann Arnold of Prudhomme, SK secured a bronze medal in the biathlon 6km sprint - female at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park at Brookvale on Monday. She finished with a time of 19:16.3.

“I wasn’t expecting to place so high,” said Arnold after winning the team’s first medal of the games.

She may not have expected to bring home a medal but she performed when it mattered most.

“I shot nine for 10, which was awesome. I don’t usually shoot that well in a race!” she exclaimed while wearing a smile as wide as the island of PEI.

As a result of the shooting proficiency, Arnold only had to complete one penalty loop. Combine that with a ski speed that she described as  “just on today” and you have a medal-winning effort.

Jaelyn Selinger of Regina, SK finished in fifth-place with a time of 19.36.9. Amelia McDonald of Deer Valley, SK finished 19th with a time of 22.32.7, while Kaycee Nord of Bushell Park, SK finished in 28th place with a time of 24.59.6
