Double Bronze for Prince Albert Para Nordic Skiier Kryztle Shewchuk
RED DEER, AB (February 27, 2019): Team Sask is proud to announce that Para Nordic Skiier Kryztle Shewchuk of Prince Albert has earned her second Bronze medal for Saskatchewan at the 2019 Canada Winter Games, taking third place in the women's Sprint Para Nordic Sitting race in a time of 19:37.90. See full results here.
The 2019 Games mark the second time Shewchuk has represented Saskatchewan at a Canada Games, after competing in Para Sailing at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg. She is coached by ten-time Paralympic medalist Colette Bourgonje, who recruited her into the sport several years ago after seeing her working at Wal-Mart. See Kryztle's full bio here.
Shewchuk, 29, will next compete in the women's 5km Para Nordic sitting race on Saturday, March 2.
Athletes who compete at the Canada Games represent the country’s next generation of national, international, Olympic and Paralympic champions. Team Sask alumni and Olympic medalists Mark McMorris, Catriona Le May Doan, and Emily Clark can all count their previous Canada Games experiences as a stepping stone to the highest levels of sport, as can Paralympians Brittany Hudak, Nic Goncin and Lisa Franks.
Throughout the Games, an ongoing Team Sask medal count will be found on the Team Sask website at teamsask.ca, and live results and sport schedules will be found at https://cg2019.gems.pro. Daily content can be found on Team Sask social media: Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. High-resolution photos can be available here via Jody Bailey or here via the 2019 Canada Winter Games.

"I thought the race went pretty good, I panicked a little bit and had some trouble getting in the tracks -- but it was quite nice that it was short and didn't have all the hills. It feels pretty good to get my second medal of the Games, I'm quite excited! I have great coaching to help me get through the sprint!"
