On behalf of the Saskatchewan Games Council staff and board, we are extremely saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend Darrell Baker.

Darrell’s passion and enthusiasm for multi-sport games spanned more than half a century, and the impacts he made to the Saskatchewan Games and Team Sask programs are too numerous to count.

He was a part of the very first Saskatchewan Games in 1972, where he coached Baseball; he was a part of the most recent, where he volunteered as Team Regina mission staff; and he contributed to many more editions in between, whether as a coach, volunteer, mission staff, or as the former Chair of our Board.

His contributions to Team Sask and the Canada Games were just as many. Darrell was a fixture of our Team Sask mission staff at many editions of the Canada Games and Western Canada Summer Games, supporting countless athletes and coaches in his trademark fashion and making indelible impacts to the culture of our mission staff. At the 2005 Canada Summer Games in Regina, Darrell was a core member of the Host Organizing Committee, serving as Administration and Finance Division VP. Last summer, Darrell was recognized by the Canada Games Council for his longstanding dedication to the Canada Games movement.

Far beyond any of his accomplishments, we will remember Darrell for his one-of-a-kind spirit, his jokes and good humour, his ever-present smile, and his kindness. Darrell was and will always be a beloved friend to so many, and he will be incredibly missed.

We send our sincere condolences to Darrell’s family, friends, and loved ones.
