Team Sask has announced the full contingent of athletes for the 19 sports that will represent the province at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, ON. Flag bearer, Wrestler, Angel Besskkaystare from Wollaston Lake will lead Saskatchewan into the Opening Ceremony on August 6, 2022. The Games will run until August 21, 2022.

With 377 athletes, 88 members of the coaching staff, 19 sports, and 25 mission staff coming from 70 different communities across Saskatchewan, forming a full contingent of 488 participants. Team Sask is truly a province-wide team ready to compete against the best in the country!

With strong medal contenders in many disciplines and provincial and national champions in their respective sports found among the team’s ranks, Team Sask is eagerly waiting to finally experience the Canada Games since the postponement from 2021. Tuesday’s media conference, at the Regina Performing Arts Centre, Team Sask Chef de Mission, Mark Bracken formally announced Team Sask's full contingent to media and addressed the crowd of over 150 athletes, coaches, and representatives from the Government of Saskatchewan, Sask Sport Inc., and the Saskatchewan Games Council. “Every one of our teams has put in a tremendous amount of preparation to get ready for their moment on the national stage,” Bracken said. “These Games will provide an opportunity for our athletes to compete against the very best in the country, build lifelong memories, meet new friends, and enjoy the incredible experience that only a major multi-sport Games can offer.”

“Congratulations to all of the Saskatchewan athletes, coaches and support staff who are attending the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games,” Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport Laura Ross said. “As members of Team Sask, your hard work, dedication, and perseverance has given you the opportunity to showcase your abilities at Canada’s prestigious Summer Games. You are role models and ambassadors for your communities and Saskatchewan. Thank you for your commitment to sport and for inspiring the citizens of our province.”

Athletes who compete at the Canada Games represent the country’s next generation of national, international, and Olympic and Paralympic champions. Team Sask alumni Mark McMorris – Snowboard, Emily Clark – Hockey, Rylan Wiens – Diving, Shelby Newkirk – Para Swim, Kenzie Priddell – Artistic Swim, Catriona LeMay Doan – Speed Skating, and Jessica Frotten – Para Athletics to name a few, can all count their previous Canada Games experiences as a steppingstone to the Olympic or Paralympic Games.
