Team Sask Chef de Mission and Assistant Chef de Mission Named for the 2021 Canada Summer Games
The Saskatchewan Games Council is pleased to announce the Team Saskatchewan Chef de Mission and Assistant Chef de Mission for the upcoming 2021 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, ON. Mark Bracken and Greg Perreaux, both of the Saskatchewan Games Council, will return as Chef de Mission and Assistant Chef de Mission, respectively. Bracken and Perreaux will serve as official spokespeople, team leaders, administrators and champions of the approximately 425 athletes, coaches, managers and technicians set to compete for Team Sask.
Both Bracken and Perreaux come to the 2021 Games with a wealth of multi-sport games experience. As the Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Games Council since 2015, this will be Bracken’s fourth consecutive assignment as Team Sask Chef de Mission. Additionally, Bracken has assumed duties as Assistant Chef de Mission a total of six times at previous Canada Games and Western Canada Summer Games. He has been a regular fixture of Team Sask mission staff since the 1999 Canada Winter Games.
“With such an impressive contingent of athletes and coaches in our province, many of whom will be advancing from their extremely strong showing at the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games in Swift Current, I look forward to once again leading our team to success in Niagara,” said Bracken. “For some of our athletes, these Games will be the pinnacle of their sporting careers; for others, this event will be a launching point in their Olympic journey. I’m grateful for the opportunity to once again proudly represent Saskatchewan and provide support to all of our incredible athletes and coaches who have worked so hard to earn their spots at the Canada Games and compete against the best in the country.”
Since 2019, Perreaux has worked as Provincial Games Consultant with the Saskatchewan Games Council, consulting with host communities as they work to stage the biennial Saskatchewan Summer and Winter Games. Perreaux has been an administrator in the Saskatchewan sport system for over 20 years, and was formerly the Executive Director of the Coaches Association of Saskatchewan before coming onboard at the Saskatchewan Games Council. In addition to his posts as Assistant Chef de Mission for Team Sask at the 2019 Canada Winter Games and 2015 Western Canada Summer Games, Perreaux has been a part of mission staff at three other Games since 2009.
The Team Sask leadership team will be comprised of Bracken, Perreaux, also acting as Operations Lead, and Communications Lead Karen Lawson, also of the Saskatchewan Games Council. The team will be joined by an additional 20 mission staff who will provide administrative, logistical, communications, and sport medicine and science support to athletes, teams and coaches. An open call for mission staff will be placed in early April, 2020.
The 2021 Canada Summer Games will run from August 6th through 21st, 2021, and will feature Canada’s best amateur athletes competing in 20 summer sports, including parasport and Special Olympics events. For more information, visit teamsask.ca and niagara2021.ca.
