QUOTES OF THE DAY:

  • "[I'm looking forward to] everything -- to win for Team Sask." YOUSIF KAED (Saskatoon, Athletics) on what he is most anticipating during his first Western Canada Summer Games experience. Yousif, who only began wheelchair racing this year, is expected to build off his 2019 Provincial and City 400m titles at the WCSG
  • "We've been really lucky, because we have 21 kids from across the province that hadn't trained together before these Games, but they came together and really bonded. It has been an awesome experience." Wrestling Manager DAWN RICARD (Radville) on how the team has gelled since arriving in Swift Current

TEAM SASK SPOTLIGHT:

  • BRIANNA ANDREWS (Saskatoon, Athletics): Four years ago, Brianna was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia one week before her 15th birthday -- and two weeks before the Tri-Province Meet, where she was set to compete in Sprints. Though she has had to overcome many obstacles and setbacks as a result of this diagnosis, she writes that the challenge has helped make her into the person she is today
  • KELSEY ROKOCHY (Swift Current, Baseball): Hometown athlete Kelsey wears the number 51 proudly on his jersey in memory of his late grandfather, who passed away before he was born. His grandfather was a member of the 1966 Grey Cup Champion Saskatchewan Roughriders football team

DAY 6 HIGHLIGHTS:

  • WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Saskatchewan's women defeated Team NT in three straight sets. Excellent serving by #12 JORDY MCEACHERN (Regina) in the second set helped Team Sask stop a late rally by NT. A dynamic block in the third set gave the win to SK 25-15
  • MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Swift Current's SHAYE WALL plays a starring role as Saskatchewan defeated Yukon 25-18, 25-14, 25-14 to open their round robin at the Western Canada Summer Games. Saskatchewan will play Northwest Territories on Thursday at 11 a.m. (Southwest Booster)
  • BASEBALL:  Saskatchewan took on Alberta (5-10 AB) for their first game of the round robin, followed by a loss to Manitoba. The team will play again tomorrow at 2 PM (vs. Alberta) and 6 PM (vs. Manitoba)
  • TENNIS: Saskatchewan's tennis team faced off against Alberta today in the Team Mix event, with 25 points earned. The Team Mix continues tomorrow, with Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles also taking place at the newly-refurbished Riverside Park courts
