(February 1, 2013) Ottawa – The Canada Games Council (CGC) is thrilled to announce today the launch of canadagames.tv, an online web portal permitting viewers access to archived Canada Games footage, special event videos, and during the 2013 Canada Summer Games, more than 700 hours of competition.
“We are excited to offer our webcasting program to supporters of the Canada Games at a time when fans are utilizing the internet and smartphones to tune into major sporting events,” says Tom Quinn, Canada Games Council Chairman. “During the 2011 Canada Winter Games, webcasting saw more than 400,000 views, and we are thrilled to offer even more programming between Games.”
This afternoon at a ceremony on Parliament Hill at 1:00pm EST, The Honourable Bal Gosal, Federal Minister of State (Sport), Tom Quinn, Chairman of the Canada Games Council, and Jean Perrault, representative of the Sherbrooke 2013 bid committee will be on hand for the lighting of the Canada Games torch. This event will kick off the festivities highlighting the start of the Torch Relay, a six-month journey that will see the torch travel throughout Quebec until the Opening Ceremony on August 2. Viewers are welcome to experience this exciting event on canadagames.tv.
The CGC has once again partnered with StreamIt to offer webcasting programming. StreamIt is one of the largest webcasting companies in Canada providing over 50 regional and national organizations (primarily sports and entertainment) with webcasting services. In 2011, StreamIt webcast 86 separate events in over 35 communities across Canada.

Held once every two years, alternating between winter and summer Games, the Canada Games represent the highest level of national competition for up and coming Provincial and Territorial athletes. The Games have been hosted in every province at least once since their inception in Quebec City during Canada’s Centennial in 1967. The 2013 Canada Summer Games will take place between August 2nd and August 17th in Sherbrooke, Quebec while Prince George, British Columbia will host the Canada Winter Games between February 12th and March 1st, 2015.
