ST. JOHN’S, NL (August 14, 2025): Several Team Sask sports wrapped up their tournaments today on day six of the 2025 Canada Summer Games, including Female Softball, who finished eighth in the standings, and Canoe Kayak. Basketball (M & F), Baseball (M), Beach Volleyball (M & F), Box Lacrosse (F), Road Cycling, Tennis, Sailing, Soccer (M), and Swimming will continue on Friday.

DAY 6 COMPETITION RECAP

BASKETBALL (M & F)

  • Last night's game was victorious against the home team Newfoundland, 86-82. Saskatchewan plays Quebec at 5:30 NST to see who will advance into the semifinals.
  • Women’s: Saskatchewan fought for it on Thursday but had a tough loss against BC (74-65). Next up is Friday at 1 PM NST, opponent TBD.

BASEBALL (M)

  • Thursday was a rest day for Men’s Baseball. On Friday, they’ll square up against Quebec to see where they’ll end up in the finals after a strong showing all tournament.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL (M & F)

  • Though the men’s and women’s team both took losses to Ontario and Quebec today, spirits at Paradise Park were high today as our teams were able to return to competition (without spectators) following a few days of uncertainty.

BOX LACROSSE (F)

  • Similarly to Beach Volleyball, Box Lacrosse (F) was able to return to its original venue at Paradise Double Ice Complex for today’s competition minus spectators to ensure safety and efficiency in the event of a possible evacuation notice. The 2025 Host and Canada Games Council adapted quickly to offer a streaming party for visiting parents and family members at the downtown St. John’s Convention Centre.

CANOE/KAYAK

  • Canoe Kayak wrapped up its competition today at the 2025 Canada Summer Games with 200m and 5000m races. The crew paddled strong against  In just a few weeks, Regina will host the 2025 Canoe Kayak Sprint National Championships and our paddlers will compete in age class races – the Canada Games roster ranges in age from 15-21. The day’s top performances were by Emmett Patterson and Baer Robertson, fourth in the C-2 200m, and Eve Wilson, also fourth in the K-1 5000m.

CYCLING (ROAD)

  • Saskatchewan Cyclists had a rest/weather day today. On Saturday afternoon, downtown St. John’s will be taken over by the fast-paced Criterium: between 30-35 laps (women) and 40-50 laps (men) of a 1.3km circuit on Water and Harbour Streets.

RUGBY SEVENS (M & F)

  • The Saskatchewan rugby teams completed their tournaments yesterday, with the men finishing fifth and women seventh. Today: a team boat tour to see puffins!

TENNIS

  • Saskatchewan took Team NT 6-1 but fell 1-5 to Alberta on Thursday. Watch for 13-year-old Isabella Yan of Regina going forward – the 2025 U16 Fischer Indoor Nationals Champion has a bright future ahead. 

SAILING

  • Saskatchewan sailors were back on the water today after a few days' break due to wildfires. Daniel Laverty took the third spot in the first boys’ ILCA race of the day, improving on his fourth place standings from earlier races.

SOCCER (M)

  • Team Sask notched a good win today, taking Yukon 3-0. Today’s goal scorers were #9 Zachary Kim, #7 Giorgio Artunduaga, and #17 Ololade Olaleye. Tomorrow they will play for 9th place against Manitoba.

SOFTBALL (F)

  • The Softball women wrapped up their Games today with a loss against Quebec 4-0; the team finished 8th in the standings.

SWIMMING

  • Saskatchewan athletes continued to swim strong in the B finals on Thursday evening’s session. Inigo Gutierrez of White City had a strong swim to finish 7th in the 200m IM A finals. Tomorrow, the Open Water 3000m men’s and women’s events will include swimmers Owen Eisler, Landon Kennedy, Clara Gelhorn, and Macy Harlos.
