ST. JOHN’S, NL (August 20, 2025): There was less rain than the day prior, but certainly no shortage of wind on day 12 of the 2025 Canada Summer Games. All sports were in play, with competition kicking off for Wrestling, Cycling (Mountain Bike) and Men’s Softball. Men's Lacrosse, Men's Volleyball, Women's Baseball, Men's Softball, and Women's Volleyball all stand undefeated so far during pool play. As the day's competition came to a close, two medals were added to the board in quick succession: Bronze for Lila Stewart in Diving (Women's 3m Springboard) and Bronze for Logan Kok in Athletics (Men's Decathlon).
In his bronze medal-winning performance, Kok set a new Saskatcheawn U20 Decathlon record of 6259 points. The 19-year-old from Saskatoon, who competes for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, was relieved and grateful after crossing the finish line of the competition's last event, the 1500m. "It was a battle -- two days -- but I made it through and I'm happy to say I'm glad it's over. [Going into the 1500m] I knew every second mattered, so it was a close battle getting that bronze. I'm just glad I found that extra gear and pushed through."
The Decathlon features ten different events over the course of two days, and athletes are awarded points for their performance in each event that go towards a combined total score. Kok was especially strong in the sprints, hurdles, and jumps, and spent much of the competition sitting in first or second place. The 1500m felt like a wildcard event. "I had no idea [that the medal was in reach]. I didn't realize it was a medal until we finished.
Throughout the last race, a sea of green could be seen surrounding the track in support of Kok and his teammate Josh Tam, who finished with a sixth place in Decathlon. "Having all that Team Sask around...no team I'd rather be with than Team Sask. There's no better feeling. Sure it's an individual sport, but winning as part of a team is what's really special."
